Baba lived a selfless life. He had no ego. His wants were few. He made no demands of anybody.

In his youth, Sombari Baba had a practice of buying a couple of kilos of vegetables, making puris from a couple of kilos of flour and then distributing the food among the sadhus and the needy people.

Noteworthy places associated with his stay are Kakrighat, Khairna, Kainchi and Padampuri.

No one was allowed to stay at Baba's ashram after midnight. He would say that he met other sages and beings at night, and they did not like anyone else being present.
***
Baba placed great emphasis on physical, mental and spiritual purity. He would say that karma can be overcome by cleanliness in thought, body and habits.
***
Baba would mix all offerings together and distribute it as prasad. His teaching was that people make offerings according to their capacity. Everyone's offerings are accepted by the divine and treated alike. Once blessed, they become prasad and everything is equally beautiful, pure and holy.

One day, a recitation of the Gita has been arranged at the ashram. Sombari Baba had asked for three seats to be prepared. One seat was for the wise man who was going to recite the Gita. Another seat was for Sombari Baba. No one knew who the third seat was meant for. That day Baba was acting impatient from the morning. He would constantly look out over the entrance of the ashram as if he was expecting someone.
Just as the recitation was about to begin, the great sage Hairakhan Baba arrived, wearing his kanchopa hat (a cap covering the ears). Sombari Baba rushed to greet and welcome him. Hairakhan Baba smiled, and they both sat and listened to the recitation of the Gita happily. After this, Hairakhan Baba walked a few feet away and then simply vanished. The large crowd of devotees who had gathered for the event were eyewitnesses to this event.

At the time when Sombari Baba left his body, Hariakhan Maharaj was living in the valley of Bhatkot mountain, at his ashram called Chhedu. When people told him about the death of Sombari Maharaj he said a saint of that stage never dies - he is in Nirbija Samadhi.
